CareerArc’s pause publishing feature allows account admins to temporarily stop the publishing of all posts across all connected profiles. This feature is handy for holidays, crises, company-wide events, or any other situation when it’s necessary to stop all social media activity. You can schedule a pause to start immediately or in the future.

The pause feature is accessed under Publish > Social profiles:

What to know

  1. What is paused?
Pausing stops all publishing of any kind of post on every profile. This includes standalone posts and magic or standard posts from any type of campaign. You cannot select a subset of profiles or campaigns to bulk-pause at this time.
Note: If you resume a pause on a date that has standalone posts scheduled, then those standalone posts will immediately be published when the pause is removed.
  2. How many pauses can I schedule?
You can only schedule one pause at a time; multiple pauses cannot be scheduled at once. Once you’ve set up a pause, you can edit it as many times as you’d like and set up a new pause once it’s complete.
  3. How does the timing work?
If a pause is scheduled to start the same day, then it takes effect immediately. If a pause is scheduled for the future, then posting stops at midnight Pacific Time (at the beginning of the first scheduled date), and it resumes at midnight Pacific Time (at the beginning of the last scheduled date)
  4. What happens when publishing resumes?
When publishing resumes, all profiles will return to the state they were in before. If a profile was paused before the universal pause was put in place, it would still be paused when publishing starts up again for the active profiles.

Scheduling a pause

Navigate to Publish > Social profiles, where you’ll see a prominent button at the top right of the page to access the pause publishing feature. The button will look different depending on whether there is no pause scheduled, a pause for the future, or a pause in effect.
Note: Only account administrators can schedule and edit pauses to publishing

No pause scheduled:

Pause scheduled for a future date:

Pause actively in effect:

After selecting the pause button, follow the instructions to select a date range for your pause, then click “Schedule pause”:

Note: The 2nd date of this range is the date posting will resume. In the scenario above, publishing will pause on Jan 29th and resume the very start of Jan 31st at 12am Pacific Time.

Once you save the changes, a toast message reiterates the pause status and resume date.

Here’s the message when you pause activity right away:

This is what the message looks like when you schedule a pause for the future:

You can access timestamped information on who initiated or modified a pause in the post modal for admin reference.

Note: This field only shows the person who made the last change

When your pause is actively in effect, a banner will appear at the top of every page of the dashboard. This banner is visible to everyone (not just admins), and it stays in place until the pause is finished:

Reviewing your pause in the calendar

Navigate to Publish > Calendar, where you’ll see the scheduled pause indicated by light red coloring on the dates it’s in effect, plus a tooltip with additional details on hover:

During a pause, the “publishing today” section of the home page is also highlighted and shows the tooltip:

Alternatives to scheduling a pause

Here are some ways to stop publishing if you do not want to use the pause publishing feature:

  • Individually pause social profiles (recommended)
Publish > Social profiles > select profile > Pause
If you segment your brand ambassadors using nicknames, it becomes easy to filter out a subset of folks whose profiles you can manually pause and
  • Individually pause jobs or EB campaigns
Publish > Campaigns > Pause campaign
  • Delete standalone posts or move them to a future date
Publish > Calendar > filter by Standalone > select the post and the three dots to edit
    Or
Library > Posts > select the Standalone tab at the top > click the three dots to select edit
